Red Witch Analog

We are a small company from New Zealand which makes analog guitar effects pedals. Our workshop is on the West Coast of the North Island. The decision to produce pedals came from a long lasting love affair with analog guitar equipment and from the knowledge that there were people who had been unable to get the 'sound' they were searching for. We strive to blend art and technology into our pedals. We aim to create devices that inspire the player - Sonically and Visually. We are dedicated to creating unique new pedals - not clones. As used by artists such as Andy Summers of POLICE.

Fuzz God II - the insane silicon brother of Germanium Fuzz God. It's wilder, it's crazier, it's the loose cannon sonic brother that you wouldn't introduce to your girlfriend, cause you know he'd try his luck with her.

Fuzz God II allows you to create fuzzyness of epic proportions (think red seas parting, burning bushes, pillars of salt etc). From your classic fuzz tones of the sustaining, soulful, singing kind through to those of utter chaos - encompassing suboctave madness, parasitic sustain and out of control fax machine dial lunacy.

More Useable, More Interactive, More Versatile, Even More Omnipotent.

Volume - This controls the output Volume - convert the masses quietly or with blasting trumpets (err, guitars)

Fuzz - From a gentle break up to a singing beam of fuzz - you decide!!!

Wrath - All gods have it and the Lord of the Fuzz is no different - click this only to smite the most brazen of unbelievers. When engaged (by depressng the lightning bolt footswitch) you can dial up all manner of destruction ; SubOctave thunder, eternally sustained notes, squealing high frequency note corruption and a myriad number of other terrifying tones.

Sputter - Choose from a smooth singing fuzz to a ragged, rough, sputty gated mess and
anything in between. This control will crackle when turned - it's changing a dc bias - and that's ok by me.

Awaken - A super sturdy truebypass switch to engage the Fuzz God effect. Engage this footswitch to incur the wrath of the Fuzz God - crazed oscillation and octavization effects.

Lightning Toggle switch - Engage this to double your gain.Heh.Ahhhhh.....heh. HEH!!!

Ear Toggle switch - Engage this switch to boost treble frequencies.

Internal trim pot - Inside the Fuzz God II is a small blue trim pot which enables you to adjust the master bias on the transistors - make it smoother or more sputtery - it's all down to you.

The Fuzz God II can be powered from either a nine volt battery or an external nine volt dc adapter (the Boss PSA style is ideal - though anything with 2.1mm barrel plug with a negative centre pin is fine. Unlike Fuzz God, Fuzz God II doesn't need any flim flammery with powering it up - either the battery or the dc supply will enable the unit to crank (including the LED). Sweet.

The Fuzz God comes finished in vintage pearl with Gold text. The LED is a brilliant diamond white. All components are top notch; Switchcraft jacks, alpha pots, through - hole double
sided circuit boards with groundplane shielding etc etc. What more could you want?

Behold! The Empress Chorus!

Not just any ordinary analog Chorus/Vibe pedal.........
Born of the same stock as the Red Witch Medusa chorus-trem , the Empress offers unparalleled chorus options. An infinite number of analog chorus/vibe devices in one box...Her most enticing feature is the unique voicing control; This dial allows you to access virtually any chorus sound you could desire! It changes the delay time – it’s on a pot so you’ve got an infinite number of chorus pedals in one box – from super spanky sparkling clean to noisy, sea sick inducing, pitch bending wobble. Delay time determines a big part of any chorus units tone/flavour/sound - short delay creates a very pristine, airy chorus whereas longer delay time gives more ‘wobble’ and ‘throb’. Unfortunately virtually all devices available only have one fixed delay setting – or at most a choice of two.....

We’ve designed a circuit that lets you adjust the delay time via a potentiometer – from one extreme to the other and everything in between. In it’s most extreme settings the device will produce some hiss – this would be expected within the last third of the voicing controls sweep.

Vibe/Chorus Switch; Choose between Chorus or Vibrato mode. When in vibrato Mode you can use the voicing dial to choose from gentle, subtle pitch shifting through to wild semitone leaps. The voicing control functions in vibe mode the same way it does in chorus mode – it shifts the delay time. Nasty or Nice – you choose.

Velocity; Super stand still slow to freaked out fast

Mix; As clean or as chorusy as you like

Depth; From a delicate flutter to a sickening swing.

Stereo Out; The Empress loves to function in stereo – harness her to two amplifiers and stand in between
them – one will carry the dry signal and the other will carry the wet. The chorusing occurs
in the air between the amps. Neat.

Bright switch; This allows you to access some more sparkle on the more shimmery settings (Set
voicing anywhere between 7 o’clock and 11 o’clock) . Engaging this switch in more extreme
settings will add background hiss.

Internal slide switch; The Empress has two different input stages – the slide switch lets you choose between them. The unit is preset by us to the Medusa input stage setting. The other position provides a
little more boost and slightly different tonal response. Feel free to try both.

Switching; The Empress uses True Bypass switching. When she’s not turned on she’s just like a piece
of guitar cable (A lady’s allowed to have some quirks!).

Power; The Empress can run from either a nine volt battery, or from an external nine volt supply,
via a 2.1mm socket.

Other Goodies; The pedal is housed in a diecast aluminum box which is coated in our unique vintage
pearl finish, and screen printed with the appropriate images.
All our pedals used only the highest quality, close tolerance parts, to ensure
decades of hassle free use.

The Deluxe Moon Phaser is an analog phase/ tremolo pedal with pedal with
a unique combination of the two - tremophase. It has an almost limitless array of sounds available
through its three simple controls. It does not reproduce the sound of any other phaser,
it is a unique new design with an incredibly warm transparent tone we refer to as spatial sparkle.

Controls:
Three rotary controls allow the user to dial up infinite phase possibilities.
The three controls are labelled:

Velocity - determines the rate of the phase/ tremolo sweep - from an incredibly slow rise and fall to a super fast pulse.

Trajectory - A unique control which adjusts the shape of the phased wave.

Cosmology - a six position rotary switch which selects the phase, tremolo or tremo- phase stage.
The unit features three phaser settings, two tremophase settings and a tremolo setting.

The Deluxe Moon Phaser features a superbrite Emerald LED - now even the deaf will know you're using the phaser, as well as our special stereo out: one output carries the wet phased signal and the other carries a special inverted dry signal, Hook the unit up to two amps and you're in celestial stereo heaven.

The unit can also be used with just one amplifier - glorious monophonic modulation!

The Moon phaser can run from either a nine volt battery, or from an external nine volt supply, via a 2.1mm socket. The pedal is housed in a diecast aluminum box finished in our vintage pearl coating, and screen printed with the appropriate heiroglyphics....... what more could you want!
All our pedals used only the highest quality, close tolerance parts, to ensure decades of hassle free phasing.

A New Approach to Tremolo...........

Yes indeed, the Red Witch Pentavocal Tremolo offers several features that are completely unique and unavailable elsewhere. Since the fifties the concept of tremolo has changed very little. Controls for Speed, Depth, Volume and Waveshape have been the parameters available for adjustment. Till now.

The Pentavocal Tremolo is simply that - a tremolo with five different voices to choose from. You can select the frequency response by turning the rotary selector to the desired setting. From a delicate, shimmery, flutter trem to a pulsy low end throb they're all there. The Pentavocal trem can certainly also do the classic sound of a vintage valve trem and then soooo much more. This pedal also has another unique feature - the Bottom control. Find out about this by reading...............

Velocity - This dial allows you to select the speed of the tremolo. From Super Slow to Super Fast.

Depth - Allows you to control the depth of the effected sound (how ironic)

Volume - Select from zero output to well above unity gain - this enables you to never be faced with the heinous volume drop that many trem pedals have when they're providing really deep tremming.

Bottom - Yes – we’ve labeled one of the controls bottom – not out of homage to a British comedy series or to the shapely derrière of the fairer sex, but as a totally new option for tremolo users. The Bottom control allows the user to dial in the amount of mid range and hi frequency cut that occurs as the volume decreases in the trem cycle. Simply put; Turn the bottom control all the way to the left and the volume just increases and decreases as per a normal trem, but set it all the way to the right and you’ll find that
as the volume decreases all of the hi end and midrange disappears. You can of course dial in as little or as much of this effect as you like. Turning the Bottom control fully clockwise whilst having the depth fully clockwise also allows you to access an asymmetrical wave which
sounds incredibly pretty at high velocity. Lucky old you.

Voicing - A five way rotary switch that lets you choose from 5 differently voiced tremolo settings.

Tremulate Footswitch - Bring the effect into the the signal path by clicking this one. Truebypass switching.

Wave Footswitch - Allows you to jump from a lovely smooth tremolo over to a hard square chop by simply depressing your foot. Bad foot, ugly, good for nothing foot..stinky foot.

Power - The Pentavocal trem can be powered from either a nine volt battery or an external nine volt adapter (Boss PSA styled is ideal - though anything with a 2.1mm barrel plug with a negative center pin is fine.). This pedal uses some sneaky circuitry to lift the internal voltage up to 17 regulated volts - the benefit of this is far greater headroom.

The Tremolo comes finished in vintage pearl with emerald text. An emerald green LED pulses along with the tremolo when the effect is engaged. All components are top notch; Switchcraft jacks, alpha pots, through hole double sided circuit boards etc etc. What more could you want?

Red Witch Empress Chorus Vibrato -  Review by Peter Hodgson

Red Witch pedals hail from the North Island of New Zealand. The company specializes in high quality analog pedals which look as good as they sound, with a very boutique vibe. I reviewed the Empress chorus/vibrato pedal. The pedal is housed in a diecast aluminum box which has been heavily plated with shiny chrome, and screen printed with slightly art nouveau inspired images. The typeface used to describe the controls looks very gothic and iconic, and Red Witch gets big points in my book for creating a strong brand identity, unlike a lot of smaller pedal makers who seem to just stick a Dymo label on a sardine can and call it finished. Controls on the Empress include a small switch for selecting vibrato or chorus mode, and another switch for brightness; and knobs for velocity, mix, depth and voice. There’s also an internal slide switch to choose between two different input stages. The unit is preset to the Medusa input stage setting, and the other position provides a little more boost and slightly different tonal response. Switching is true bypass, and the pedal runs on either a 9 volt battery or an external power supply. The pedal arrived in a rather simple looking cardboard box but upon opening this up, I found the pedal housed inside a denim sleeve, with Velcro already installed on the bottom of the pedal for quick attachment to pedal boards. Plugging this beast in, the first thing to catch my attention was a LED which flashed in time with the velocity setting. Nice touch! It seems relatively easy for pedal designers to design a chorus pedal which has that slick 80s hi fi sound – you know the one, it’s all over the clean tones on any Def Leppard or Michael Bolton album. But what makes the Empress great is that it nails that classic vintage warbly chorus sound that sounds like it’s a true part of the sound, rather than something that’s being done to the sound. My favourite setting was running the pedal into the lead channel of my Marshall DSL50 head, with the voice and depth controls on 10 and the velocity and mix controls on 4. With this setting going into a distorted amp tone, the Empress added rich harmonic overtones similar to Eric Clapton’s “Woman Tone” or the sound of a wah pedal half cocked, which seemed to swell up around the note then drop back again. Backing off the gain and switching to vibrato mode, some great vintage textures were on tap, and cranking everything to 10 in either chorus or vibrato mode created some gloriously over the top wobbly bubble sounds. This pedal is one of those rare units that is able to inspire you to seek out new sounds and new songs to fully take advantage of all it has to offer. It’s one of the best chorus pedals I’ve seen in a long time. SPECS: Controls: velocity, mix, depth, voice, brightness, chorus/vibrato Bypass: True bypass Power: 9v battery or adaptor
